Retouch4me Free Upscaler is a free AI-powered tool for enlarging photos and illustrations by 2× or 4×. Choose from seven model profiles to find the right balance of detail, smoothness, and restoration for your image.

Use it as a standalone application or inside Adobe Photoshop. Image processing runs locally on your computer — your photos are not uploaded to the cloud for processing.

Powered by third-party AI models

Free Upscaler brings publicly available models from independent research teams into a convenient Retouch4me interface. These models were not developed or trained by Retouch4me. Our role is to integrate them into the application and Photoshop workflow.

Their processing quality and characteristics do not represent those of Retouch4me’s proprietary AI models used in other products. Results depend on the selected third-party model and the source image.

Two processing modes

• Enlarge: increase image dimensions by 2× or 4×. In Photoshop, the plugin resizes the document and places the result on a new layer.
• Inplace: preserve the original image dimensions. The plugin first reduces the image, then reconstructs it using the selected AI model.

Seven model profiles

Different images benefit from different models. Compare the results and choose the look you prefer.

• Fast General — Real-ESRGAN General x4v3: lightweight processing for everyday upscaling.
• Photo Detail — Real-ESRGAN x2plus / x4plus: reconstruction with an emphasis on photographic detail and texture.
• Photo Smooth — RealESRNet x4plus: softer reconstruction with less pronounced sharpening.
• Illustration — Real-ESRGAN Anime 6B: processing for illustrations, drawings, and anime-style images.
• Photo Restore — SwinIR PSNR: restoration of photographs affected by noise and compression artifacts.
• Clean Image — SwinIR-S: upscaling for relatively clean images that need minimal restoration.
• Photo Restore — HAT: Real HAT GAN restoration for more pronounced reconstruction of photographic detail.

Models with native 2× support use their corresponding 2× weights. Other models produce a 4× result, which is then reduced when 2× output is selected.

Processing quality and limitations

Results vary depending on the model and source image. Processing may introduce artifacts, alter textures, facial features, or lettering, and generate details that were not present in the original photograph. Accurate reconstruction of lost information and improved quality are not guaranteed. Please review the result before use or delivery.

To the extent permitted by applicable law, Retouch4me does not warrant and is not responsible for the quality, accuracy, or suitability of results produced by these third-party models. These results should not be used to judge the quality of Retouch4me’s proprietary AI models.

The included third-party model components are distributed under BSD-3-Clause and Apache-2.0 licenses. Full license texts, author attributions, warranty disclaimers, and conversion notices are included with the software. All rights to the original models remain with their respective owners. Their inclusion does not imply endorsement of Retouch4me by the model authors.
