Prepare files for delivery

What you will do

Prepare two kinds of JPEG delivery from the same selected photographs: full-size copies and copies resized to a 1200-pixel long edge. You will choose a separate destination and filename rule, optionally add exported copies to the current project, resolve a conflict without replacing an existing generated file, and check the saved names, dimensions, appearance, and original files.

Before you start

Sign in to Arams on Windows and work with disposable copies of your photographs. These steps were checked with the English interface in Arams 1.10.2 using maxine-01.jpg and maxine-02.jpg, both full-resolution 6064 × 4040 JPEGs.

The verified workflow used Local mode with every retouching tool switched off. It tested JPEG export only. It does not establish results for other formats, metadata or color-profile preservation, cloud export, or exports with a retouching tool enabled.

Use a new subfolder for each delivery test. A unique destination keeps generated copies separate from the source photographs and makes filename conflicts deliberate. The verified conflict test was performed only against a copy generated by the preceding export; it did not place an unrelated existing file at risk.

Steps

Prepare the selected photographs

  1. Import the full-resolution photographs into a disposable project. See Import photos for the verified import procedure.
  2. Click one photograph, press Ctrl+A, and check that the counter reads 2 photos / 2 selected.
  3. Open the export panel using the upward-arrow icon at the far right.
  4. Select Local.
  5. Open All in the tool list and clear every checked tool.
  6. Open Export settings.

Choose the destination and filename rule

  1. Under Export to, choose Hard drive — To computer.
  2. Under Photos to Export, choose the selected photographs and check Selected: 2.
  3. Choose Original Files Folder in the folder selector.
  4. Turn on Put in Subfolder and enter a new, unused subfolder name. The generated UUID-like names in the screenshots are test destinations; use a meaningful unique name for your delivery.
  5. Under Naming and Overwriting, choose Add to the Name: -retouched.
  6. Select JPEG under Format.
  7. Leave Shut down computer after export unchecked if it is shown.

The verified filename rule produced maxine-01-retouched.jpg and maxine-02-retouched.jpg. The suffix comes from the naming rule; it does not by itself prove that a retouching tool was applied.

Export full-size JPEG copies

  1. Leave Add to Current Project unchecked.
  2. Turn Resize to fit off.
  3. Review the selected count, destination, subfolder, naming rule, and JPEG format.

  1. Click Export.
  2. Wait for the export to complete before checking the destination folder.

With the 6064 × 4040 inputs used here, both exported JPEGs decoded at 6064 × 4040. Turning resizing off retained the pixel dimensions for these files; it does not make a claim about metadata or color-profile preservation.

Export resized copies and add them to the project

  1. Keep both original photographs selected and open Export settings again.
  2. Enter another new subfolder name.
  3. Turn on Add to Current Project.
  4. Turn on Resize to fit.
  5. Choose Long edge, enter 1200, and turn on Don’t enlarge.
  6. Keep JPEG selected and review the other settings.

  1. Click Export and wait for completion.
  2. In the left sidebar, open All Folders. The two originals and two exported copies should now be present in the project.

In the verified run, the resized files decoded at 1200 × 799. The project contained four photographs after export. Previous Import still referred to the two original imports, so use All Folders when checking the copies added by export.

Handle a generated filename conflict

  1. Clear the current selection, then select only the original maxine-01.jpg.
  2. Open Export settings and choose the same resized destination used in the preceding procedure.
  3. Keep Add to the Name: -retouched, Add to Current Project, Resize to fit, Long edge 1200, Don’t enlarge, and JPEG selected.
  4. Click Export and wait for completion.
  5. Open All Folders and check the file count.

Because maxine-01-retouched.jpg already existed in that generated destination, Arams preserved it and created maxine-01-retouched1.jpg. The project then contained five photographs. This numbered result was verified only for the shown Add to the Name: -retouched rule and a conflict with an earlier Arams-generated copy; do not assume the same behavior for other naming or overwrite choices without testing them.

Check the result

Inspect the files on disk as well as the project grid:

  1. Open each delivery subfolder and compare the saved filenames with the selected naming rule.
  2. Open every exported JPEG in an image viewer. Check that it shows the expected photograph without blank areas, truncation, or visible corruption.
  3. Check the pixel dimensions. In this verified example, the full-size files were 6064 × 4040 and the resized files were 1200 × 799.
  4. Confirm that the conflict destination contains both maxine-01-retouched.jpg and maxine-01-retouched1.jpg.
  5. If Add to Current Project was on, open All Folders and match the copies in the grid to the files on disk.
  6. Confirm that maxine-01.jpg and maxine-02.jpg remain in their original folder with their original names. If you recorded checksums before export, compare them now.

The verified run decoded all five generated JPEGs and checked their sizes and SHA-256 hashes. The two source fixtures remained byte-for-byte unchanged after all three exports.

If it does not work

  • The saved dimensions are unexpected: check whether Resize to fit is on. For this example, choose Long edge, enter 1200, and check Don’t enlarge.
  • The exported copies do not appear in the project: open All Folders and confirm that Add to Current Project was selected before export. Copies are not added retroactively when the option was off.
  • You cannot find the destination: check Original Files Folder, Put in Subfolder, and the exact subfolder name. Do not assume that the project storage folder is the export destination.
  • The filename does not match: review Naming and Overwriting before exporting. The tested rule was Add to the Name: -retouched.
  • An existing file matters: stop and choose a disposable destination. The verified conflict procedure used only generated copies and is not a reason to test with a client’s only file.
  • A task reports completion but a JPEG does not open: treat the delivery as failed. Keep the task status and exact filename, and preserve the destination for diagnosis.
