Choose retouching tools and settings
What you will do
Section titled “What you will do”Choose a retouching tool for one photograph and adjust its setting in the Retouching panel. This example uses Heal in Cloud mode: you will change Sensitivity from 100 to 75, check that the setting stays with the selected photo, and reset it.
These steps configure retouching. They do not generate a retouched preview or export a processed photograph.
Before you start
Section titled “Before you start”The steps were verified on Windows in Arams 1.11.0-dev.3, with the English interface and a signed-in account. Cloud mode and the Heal controls were available in that account.
Open a project containing photographs. The example uses maxine-01.jpg and maxine-02.jpg, two full-resolution 6064 × 4040 JPEG portraits. Import the photographs at their original resolution and wait until both thumbnails appear.
Open the tool list for one photograph
Section titled “Open the tool list for one photograph”- Click maxine-01.jpg once in the photo grid.
- Check the filename beside the photo counter. With these two photos imported, the counter should show 2 photos / 1 selected.
- Click the magic-wand icon in the narrow toolbar at the far right. Its tooltip reads Retouching.
- Click Cloud at the top of the right panel.
- Click All below Presets to use the view shown here.
Under Plugins → Human, the visible list includes Heal, Mattifier, Dodge Burn, Skin Tone, Portrait Volumes, and White Teeth. Each has a checkbox. The following steps verify the controls for Heal; they do not establish the behavior or image results of every listed tool.
Enable Heal and set Sensitivity
Section titled “Enable Heal and set Sensitivity”- Select the checkbox beside Heal.
- Find Sensitivity in the Heal section. If the setting is hidden, move the pointer over the section and use its expand control.
- Click the numeric field beside the Sensitivity slider.
- Replace 100 with 75.
- Press Tab to leave the field and confirm that it still shows 75.
The value 75 is an example for practicing the controls, not a recommended retouching value for every portrait. Judging the visual effect requires a processed preview, which is outside this task.
Check the tool toggle and photo selection
Section titled “Check the tool toggle and photo selection”- Clear the Heal checkbox to disable the tool for the selected photograph.
- Select the checkbox again. Sensitivity should still show 75.
- Click maxine-02.jpg. In this example, its Heal setting remains 100.
- Click maxine-01.jpg again. Confirm that Heal is checked and Sensitivity is 75.
This confirms that the first photo retains its setting when you switch away and back within the open project. The example selects only one photograph at a time; it does not demonstrate applying settings to a batch or retaining them after restarting Arams.
Restore the initial setting
Section titled “Restore the initial setting”- Keep maxine-01.jpg selected.
- Move the pointer over the Heal section to reveal its controls.
- Click the reset control in that section.
- Check that Sensitivity returns to 100, the initial value in this example.
Check the result
Section titled “Check the result”The selected filename should be maxine-01.jpg, the counter should show 1 selected, and Heal should remain checked. After the reset, Sensitivity should read 100. Both imported photographs remain in the grid.
Stop here if you only want to configure the tool. Retouch preview and Export are separate actions; neither is needed to complete these steps.
If it does not work
Section titled “If it does not work”- The retouching tools are not visible: open the Retouching panel using the magic-wand icon, then select Cloud and All as above.
- Sensitivity is hidden: enable Heal, then expand its section if needed.
- The value changes when you select another photo: check the selected filename. In the verified example, the second photo showed 100 while the first retained 75.
- You want to undo the setting change: use the reset control within Heal and check the resulting value.
- Cloud or Heal is unavailable: this workflow requires those controls to be available. Recovery from an account or server availability error was not verified in this task.
