Find photographs and people

What you will do

Find photographs in a project by filename or a manual tag, limit the grid with Date of creation, and use an automatically detected person cluster to show photographs containing the same person.

Before you start

Sign in to Arams, create or open a project, and import the photographs you want to search. The person filter needs photographs of at least two people and Automatic face search enabled in Settings.

The steps were verified on Windows in Arams 1.10.2, with the interface set to English. The test project contained three full-resolution JPEG files: maxine-01.jpg, maxine-02.jpg, and richard-6433.jpg. The two Maxine portraits and the Richard portrait provided two visibly different people. Arams created two person clusters and grouped the two Maxine photographs together in the verified run.

Automatic face search sends a photograph to the Retouch4me server for analysis. Enable it only if that is appropriate for your photographs. The verified run performed face search only; it did not run retouching, export photographs, purchase anything, or publish photographs.

Search by filename

1. In the left sidebar, expand Name search.
2. Select the large filename field. This enables the checkbox beside Name search.
3. Enter all or part of a filename, such as maxine-01.
4. Check the counter above the grid and the filenames of the remaining cards.

In the verified project, maxine-01 left only maxine-01.jpg visible. maxine-02.jpg and richard-6433.jpg were hidden. Clear all active filters with the circular reset button in the filter bar before starting a different search.

Find a manually tagged photograph

First add a tag to a photograph:

1. Select one photograph and open Details and Faces on the right.
2. Expand Metadata, then expand Tags if the tag field is hidden.
3. Enter a tag such as portfolio and press Enter.
4. Check that the tag appears under Tags.

To use the tag as a filter, select the displayed tag. The grid narrows to photographs carrying that tag.

The verified run added portfolio to maxine-01.jpg and alternate to maxine-02.jpg. Selecting portfolio left only maxine-01.jpg visible. These were manual tags; automatic tagging was not enabled or tested.

Filter by creation date

1. Select Date of creation in the filter bar.
2. Enter the end of the required range in the To field and press Enter.
3. Close the date panel and inspect the grid and result count.
4. Reopen Date of creation and extend the end date when you need to restore later photographs.

When the date range excludes every photograph, Arams shows the active Date of creation filter and a Reset filters link. Arams 1.10.2 · Windows · English

The verified JPEG fixtures contained no copied EXIF metadata. Setting To to the day before the files’ recorded creation date hid all three photographs; setting it to that creation date restored all three. This proves the visible Date of creation control on the tested baseline, but it does not establish that Arams uses a camera’s EXIF capture timestamp for every file type.

Find photographs of one person

If Persons is unavailable, open Settings, enable Automatic face search, accept the analysis notice if it appears, and return to the project. Wait for analysis to finish before using the filter.

1. In the left sidebar, expand Persons under Smart filters.
2. Review the detected face thumbnails. Arams labels the clusters generically, for example Person 1.
3. Select one person thumbnail.
4. Check that the grid contains fewer photographs and visually confirm each result before using it in a selection.

In the verified run, two clusters were available. Selecting the first cluster left the two Maxine portraits visible and hid the Richard portrait. This is one observed grouping, not a guarantee of face-identity accuracy. Review the actual photographs, especially near-duplicates, profiles, partially hidden faces, and different lighting.

Check the result

The project grid contains only photographs matching the active filename, manual tag, creation-date range, or person cluster. The project photo total is unchanged: filters hide nonmatching photographs; they do not remove them from the project.

Use the circular reset button in the filter bar to return to the complete grid, then check the total and filenames before continuing.

If it does not work

• Typing a filename does not narrow the grid: select the filename field with the pointer before typing and confirm that the checkbox beside Name search is enabled.
• A manual tag is missing: select the photograph, open Details and Faces > Metadata > Tags, enter the tag, and press Enter. Confirm that the tag is displayed before selecting it.
• The date filter finds nothing: reopen Date of creation, inspect the To value, and extend the range. Use the filter-bar reset button if you are unsure which filters are active.
• Persons is empty: confirm Automatic face search is enabled, that server analysis is appropriate for the photographs, and that analysis has finished. A project with no detectable faces may not produce a person cluster.
• A person cluster includes the wrong photograph or misses one: treat the cluster as a starting point and inspect every result. Do not rely on the generic person number as an identity.
• A later search gives unexpected results: reset the previous filter first. Filename, tag, date, and person filters can otherwise narrow the grid together.
