Select and deselect photographs

What you will do

Section titled “What you will do”

Choose a single photograph, add or remove individual photos from the selection, select both photos at once, and clear the selection. Deselecting leaves the photographs in the project.

Before you start

Sign in and open a project with imported photos visible in the grid. This example uses Selection practice, containing maxine-01.jpg and maxine-02.jpg, imported as full-resolution JPEGs (6064 × 4040 pixels).

The steps were checked on Windows with the English interface in Arams 1.11.0-dev.3, using the default keyboard shortcuts. Keep the photo grid active when using the shortcuts below. macOS shortcuts and selection across filtered views have not been verified here.

Steps

Select one photograph

  1. Click the maxine-01.jpg card once.
  2. Check the counter below the project name. It should read 2 photos / 1 selected. The first card has a blue outline.

Add or remove an individual photograph

  1. Hold Ctrl and click maxine-02.jpg. Release Ctrl. Both photos are now selected, and the counter reads 2 selected.

  1. Hold Ctrl and click maxine-01.jpg again. Release Ctrl. This removes the first photo from the selection, leaving maxine-02.jpg selected. The counter reads 1 selected.
  2. Click maxine-01.jpg without holding Ctrl. The selection changes to that photo alone; maxine-02.jpg is no longer selected.

Select all and clear the selection

  1. With the two-photo grid active, press Ctrl+A. Both photos are selected and the counter reads 2 selected.
  2. Press Ctrl+D to clear the selection. The counter reads 0 selected, and both photographs remain in the grid.

Check the result

Use the selected counter below the project name to confirm the number of selected photos: 1, 2, or 0 in this example. The total remains 2 photos throughout.

A blue outline can remain on the first card even after Ctrl+D, as shown above. Confirm that the counter reads 0 selected instead of relying on the outline alone. Selecting or deselecting photos does not require running Analyze 2, Retouch preview, or Export.

If it does not work

  • Clicking another photo replaces your selection: hold Ctrl while clicking to add that photo. A plain click selects it alone.
  • You removed a photo from the selection by mistake: Ctrl-click that photo again to add it back.
  • A blue outline remains after clearing: check the counter. 0 selected confirms that the selection is empty, even with the outline visible.
  • The grid is empty: import photos before trying these steps. Wait until their thumbnails and filenames appear.
