Select photographs for delivery

What you will do

Review similar and different photographs, record your choices with manual ratings, narrow the gallery with a rating filter, and finish with an explicit selection for delivery.

Before you start

Sign in and open a project with at least three distinct photographs, including a similar pair. Wait until every thumbnail and filename is visible. The three-photo comparison in this example uses the full-resolution JPEGs maxine-01.jpg, maxine-02.jpg, and richard-6433.jpg. The two Maxine portraits form the similar pair; Richard provides a visibly different candidate.

The rating-and-filter example uses maxine-01.jpg and maxine-02.jpg in a separate practice project. These steps were verified on Windows in Arams 1.10.2, with the English interface and the default keyboard shortcuts. No photo analysis, retouching, or export is required for this workflow.

Steps

Inspect and compare candidate photographs

1. Show the candidate photographs as separate cards. If a similar pair is collapsed into a group, expand the group so that you can see both members beside the different photograph.
2. Check the filenames before comparing the photographs. In this example, the expanded gallery shows both Maxine files and richard-6433.jpg.
3. Click each card in turn to compare the overall pose, expression, and framing. The selected card has a blue outline, and its filename appears beside the photo counter.

4. Double-click maxine-01.jpg to open the larger viewer. Wait for the photograph to finish loading.
5. Inspect the photograph at the initial 100% viewer scale. Use the filename and the thumbnail strip to keep track of the candidate you are viewing.
6. Return to the four-square Gallery view when you are ready to record a choice.

The viewer helps you compare visible details; it does not identify a recommended photograph. Make the delivery choice yourself.

Use ratings and filters to narrow the selection

1. In the gallery, click maxine-01.jpg and press 4.
2. Click maxine-02.jpg and press 3.
3. Check the rating beneath each thumbnail. In the compact card display, the value appears as a number beside a gold star.
4. Press Ctrl+D to clear the current selection before filtering. Clearing the selection does not clear either rating.

After rating, maxine-01.jpg has 4 stars and maxine-02.jpg has 3; the current selection is cleared before filtering. Arams 1.10.2 · Windows · English

5. If the filter bar is hidden, click the funnel icon in the toolbar.
6. Check that the rating comparison is ≥, then set the rating filter to four stars.
7. Confirm that maxine-01.jpg remains visible and maxine-02.jpg is hidden. The filter has narrowed the view; it has not removed the hidden photograph from the project.

Use ratings as working marks rather than as an automatic delivery decision. You can reset the filter and revise a rating after another comparison.

Control selection when changing filters

The Reset selected photos when switching filter setting is available in Settings. The verified example below checks the selection after filtering with the switch both off and on. Before trying it, note its original state so that you can restore your workspace afterward.

1. Open Settings from the project toolbar and locate Reset selected photos when switching filter.
2. Turn the switch off.

The off state was checked before applying the rating filter to two selected photographs. Arams 1.10.2 · Windows · English

3. Return to the project, reset the rating filter, and select both Maxine photographs: click the first, then hold Ctrl while clicking the second.
4. Apply the ≥ 4 rating filter again. The four-star photograph remains visible and selected. The counter reads 1 photos / 1 selected in this example.

5. Reset the filter and check the selection again. In the checked example, the previously hidden three-star photograph returned to the gallery but did not return to the selection. Do not treat the off setting as a guarantee that hidden selections will be restored.
6. Open Settings, turn Reset selected photos when switching filter on, and return to the project.

The on state was checked with the same rating filter before restoring the original setting. Arams 1.10.2 · Windows · English

7. With both Maxine photographs selected, apply the ≥ 4 filter once more.
8. Check that the filtered gallery contains the four-star photograph and the counter reads 1 photos / 1 selected. This is the same visible count as in the checked off-state example; do not infer a different hidden selection from the switch alone.

After filtering, the counter reads 1 photos / 1 selected; verify the result from the visible cards and the counter. Arams 1.10.2 · Windows · English

9. Reset the filter, then restore Reset selected photos when switching filter to the state you noted before this procedure.

Whichever setting you use, check the visible cards and the selected counter after every filter change. A filter can hide a photograph, while the counter tells you how many photographs are currently selected in the displayed result.

Check the final selected set

1. Reset all filters so that the candidate photographs are visible again.
2. Review the filenames and ratings one last time.
3. Click the first photograph you intend to deliver. Hold Ctrl and click each additional photograph that belongs in the final set.
4. Check the blue outlines and the selected counter. In the two-photo example, both Maxine photographs are selected and the counter reads 2 photos / 2 selected.

The final check matches the outlines, ratings, and counter to the two photographs selected for the next stage. Arams 1.10.2 · Windows · English

5. If the count or filenames are wrong, Ctrl-click an individual card to add or remove it before continuing to any export workflow.

Check the result

Resetting the filter should restore the candidate thumbnails without clearing their manual ratings. The final blue outlines, filenames, and selected counter should agree with the set you intend to deliver.

This workflow prepares a selection inside the project. It does not export, publish, retouch, or delete any photograph.

If it does not work

• Only one card is visible before you start: look for a numbered group badge and expand it, or turn grouping off to show the photographs separately.
• The wrong photograph remains after filtering: check both the ≥ symbol and the number of gold stars in the filter bar. Reset the filter with the circular-arrow button and try again.
• A filter change altered the selection unexpectedly: check Reset selected photos when switching filter, then reselect the intended cards after resetting the filter. Always confirm the counter instead of relying only on a blue outline.
• A rating shortcut changes more photographs than intended: check the selected counter before pressing a number. Click one card without Ctrl to select it alone.
• No photographs are visible: reset the filters. If the gallery is still empty, import photographs and wait for their thumbnails to load.
