Customize keyboard shortcuts

What you will do

Change Set image rating to 4 from 4 to Shift+4, check the new shortcut on a selected photograph, and restore the default 4 shortcut.

Before you start

Sign in to Arams. To test the shortcut, open a project with at least one photograph in the grid. The verified example uses Shortcut practice with maxine-01.jpg and maxine-02.jpg, imported as full-resolution JPEGs (6064 × 4040 pixels).

These steps were checked on Windows with the English interface in Arams 1.10.2. The test changed only a rating shortcut; it did not start Analyze, Retouch preview, or Export.

Change the shortcut

  1. Click Settings.
  2. Select Shortcuts in the left menu.
  3. Scroll to Set image rating to 4. Its default shortcut is 4.
  4. In the Actions column for that row, click the pencil icon.
  5. When Enter a new key combination opens, press Shift+4.
  6. Check that the dialog shows Shift + 4, then click Accept.

Check the new shortcut

  1. Return to the project and click a photograph once. Check that the project counter shows 1 selected.
  2. Press 4. The selected photograph should remain unrated because that key is no longer assigned to this action.
  3. Press Shift+4. The photograph should show a rating of 4 beside a gold star.

Restore the default shortcut

  1. Return to Settings, then select Shortcuts.
  2. Scroll to Set image rating to 4.
  3. In that row’s Actions column, click the reset icon (the small square with an ×). The shortcut changes back to 4.

  1. Return to the project. Select the photograph, clear its rating with Shift+Backspace, then press 4. The photograph should again show a rating of 4.

Check the result

The shortcut table shows Shift + 4 after the change and 4 after the row is reset. In the project, only Shift+4 assigns rating 4 while the custom shortcut is active; after the reset, 4 assigns rating 4 again.

This procedure verifies one shortcut change and its per-row reset in the current Windows session. Restore all shortcuts, behavior after restarting Arams, and macOS key combinations have not been verified here.

If it does not work

  • The key combination is not shown in the dialog: click the shortcut preview area if necessary, then press the complete combination again before selecting Accept.
  • The shortcut does not affect a photo: return to the project, click one photograph, and confirm that the counter shows 1 selected before pressing the keys.
  • The wrong row changed: find Set image rating to 4 and use the reset icon in that same row, then repeat the change there.
  • The rating is a number and one star: this is the compact card display. A 4 beside a gold star confirms that the rating was applied.
