Inspect detected faces at useful resolution

Select a photograph, find its detected face, and enlarge the face preview so that the eyes, skin, and expression are easier to inspect. Then return to the tiled face view and select another photograph.

These steps were verified on Windows in Arams 1.11.0-dev.3, with the English interface and a signed-in account that could perform automatic face search.

Use full-resolution photographs with clearly visible faces. This example uses maxine-01.jpg and maxine-02.jpg, two 6064 × 4040 JPEG portraits. Keep the original resolution when importing them.

Automatic face search must be enabled before the import used here. The verified setup involved accepting Arams’ server-analysis consent dialog. Use photographs you are authorized to send for analysis.

Enable automatic face search and import the portraits

Section titled “Enable automatic face search and import the portraits”
  1. From the start screen, open Settings.
  2. In General, turn on Automatic face search if it is off.
  3. If Arams displays the dialog explaining that selected images will be uploaded to Retouch4me servers for cloud processing, read it and click I Agree to proceed with that analysis.
  4. Return to the start screen using the back arrow.
  5. Create a project, then import the two photographs by dragging their files into the empty project.
  6. Wait until both thumbnails and filenames appear and the counter shows 2 photos.

The example project is named Face inspection practice. No separate Analyze 2 or Retouch preview action was needed for this face-inspection workflow.

  1. Click the maxine-01.jpg card once to select it.
  2. Click the face-outline icon in the narrow toolbar at the far right. The Details and Faces panel opens.
  3. Wait for the Faces heading to show a positive count. This portrait shows Faces (1).
  4. If the face preview is collapsed, click the Faces (1) heading to expand it.
  5. Click the four-square icon beside the heading to use the tiled face view.

The face appears as a small crop in the right panel. The minus button below Show frames reduces tile size; the screenshot shows the smallest setting, reached by clicking minus until it is disabled.

  1. Click the split-rectangle icon immediately to the right of the four-square icon in the Faces header.
  2. Inspect the enlarged face in the right panel. Confirm that it belongs to the selected photograph by comparing it with the selected card and filename.

In this example, the face fills most of the panel width, making the eyes, skin, and expression easier to see. The panel displays a face preview, not a confirmed one-image-pixel-to-one-screen-pixel view of the original photograph. To inspect the photograph itself, use the photo viewer and zoom.

  1. Click the four-square icon in the Faces header to return to the tiled view.
  2. Click maxine-02.jpg in the photo grid.
  3. Wait for its detected face to appear. Check that the selected filename and face crop change to the second portrait.

The first portrait should show Faces (1) and a real face crop that becomes visibly larger when you switch views. After selecting the second portrait, its own face crop should replace the first. Both photographs remain in the project.

  • Faces (face search disabled) appears: return to Settings → General and enable Automatic face search. The verified recovery used a new project and a fresh import after enabling it; automatic detection of previously imported photos was not verified.
  • The face is too small to inspect: use the split-rectangle icon in the Faces header to open the larger preview.
  • You see the wrong portrait: click the intended card and check the filename beside the photo counter before inspecting its face.
  • No positive face count appears: this workflow has not reached its required starting state. Detection of photographs without clear faces and recovery from server failures have not been verified here.
