Inspect a photograph and zoom in

What you will do

Section titled “What you will do”

Open one photograph in a larger view, zoom in to examine details such as the eyes and skin, then restore the initial framing and return to the grid.

Before you start

Section titled “Before you start”

Sign in and open a project with imported photographs. Wait until the thumbnails and filenames appear in the grid. This example uses Inspection practice, with maxine-01.jpg and maxine-02.jpg, both full-resolution JPEGs (6064 × 4040 pixels).

These steps were verified on Windows in Arams 1.11.0-dev.3, with the English interface and a mouse wheel. Inspection does not require analyzing or retouching the photographs.

Open a photograph

  1. Double-click the maxine-01.jpg card in the grid.
  2. Wait for the photograph to appear in the large central viewer. Check the filename beside the photo counter to confirm that you opened the intended image.

The two thumbnails remain below the viewer. The scale indicator at the lower left reads 100% in the initial view.

Zoom in to inspect details

  1. Move the pointer over the large photograph.
  2. Scroll the mouse wheel upward. The photograph enlarges, and the percentage at the lower left increases.
  3. Examine the enlarged details. In this example, 180% gives a closer view of the face, with some of the photograph extending beyond the viewer.

The percentage describes the displayed scale relative to the initial view in this workflow. Do not use 100% here as confirmation that one image pixel equals one screen pixel.

Restore the initial view

  1. Double-click the enlarged photograph.
  2. Check that the initial framing returns and the indicator reads 100% again.

Return to the photo grid

Section titled “Return to the photo grid”
  1. Click the Gallery icon, shown as four small squares in the top toolbar above the photograph. It is the leftmost of the three view-mode icons, just before the horizontal slider.
  2. Check that both photograph cards appear in the grid again.

Check the result

You should have seen the same portrait at its initial scale, a visibly enlarged view, and the restored initial framing. After returning to the grid, the counter still shows 2 photos; 1 selected remains in this example.

If it does not work

Section titled “If it does not work”
  • A click only selects the card: double-click it to open the large viewer.
  • The enlarged photo no longer fits in the viewer: double-click the photograph to restore the initial framing.
  • You need the thumbnail grid again: use the four-square Gallery icon in the top toolbar.
  • There are no photographs to open: import photos and wait for their thumbnails and filenames before continuing.
