Customize your working environment

What you will do

Set up Arams for the way you work: choose the interface language, assign a convenient shortcut to a frequent action, and decide whether a filter change should reset your selection.

Before you start

You can change the language and shortcuts at any time. To try the selection preference, open a project that contains rated photographs so that a filter can show some photographs and hide others.

Steps

Choose the interface language

1. Click Settings.
2. Make sure General is selected in the left menu.
3. Under Appearance, open Interface language and choose the language you want to use. The interface labels change immediately.

For example, choosing Русский changes the Settings page to Russian:

To return to English, select Общие in the left menu, then under Внешний вид, open Язык интерфейса and choose English.

English remains selected after leaving and reopening Settings in the current session. Arams 1.10.2 · Windows · American English

Changing the interface language changes Arams labels. It does not translate project names or photo filenames that you supplied.

Choose keyboard shortcuts for frequent actions

Open Settings, select Shortcuts, and find the action you use frequently. Choose a combination that is easy to reach. For example, you can change Set image rating to 4 from 4 to Shift+4.

Configure selection behavior when filtering

Use Reset selected photos when switching filter to decide whether changing filters should reset the selection. A filter can remove hidden photographs from the selection regardless of this setting, so check the project counter before rating, tagging, or otherwise changing a group of photographs.

Keep the current selection where possible

1. Open the project, click Settings, and make sure General is selected.
2. Under Filter, turn off Reset selected photos when switching filter if you want to keep the current selection where possible.

3. Return to the project and apply the filter you need. The counter shows how many photographs are visible and how many are selected.

When you clear the filter, photographs that were hidden can return without being selected. Reselect them before applying another action to the group.

Resetting the filter restored both cards while the counter remained 2 photos / 1 selected. Arams 1.10.2 · Windows · American English

Reset the selection when filters change

1. Open Settings and turn on Reset selected photos when switching filter if you prefer the selection to reset when you change filters.

Leave the switch on after the check to restore the baseline state for the scenario. Arams 1.10.2 · Windows · American English

2. Return to the project and apply the filter you need. Check the counter before you act on the selection.

If it does not work

• You cannot find the language control: select General and look under Appearance. In the Russian interface, these labels are Общие and Внешний вид.
• The shortcut does not affect a photograph: return to the project and select a photograph before pressing the combination. See Customize keyboard shortcuts for more troubleshooting steps.
• The selection is not in the expected state after a filter change: use the project counter to check the current selection. Reselect the photographs you need, or return to Settings and change Reset selected photos when switching filter before continuing.
