Customize your working environment

What you will do

Set the interface language you want to work in, choose a keyboard shortcut for a frequent action, and configure the selection preference used when you change a filter. Restore the English interface and the baseline selection setting when you finish the practice workflow.

Before you start

Sign in to Arams on Windows. For the selection example, create a disposable project with at least two photographs, give one photograph a rating of 4, and leave the other unrated. The verified scenario imports the full-resolution maxine-01.jpg and maxine-02.jpg fixtures (6064 × 4040 pixels); it does not run photo analysis, retouching, or export.

These steps were checked in Arams 1.10.2 with the English interface on Windows. The language and filter preferences were checked after leaving and reopening Settings in the current app session. Persistence after restarting Arams was not tested. The keyboard-shortcut procedure was verified separately in Customize keyboard shortcuts.

Steps

Change and restore the interface language

1. Click Settings.
2. Make sure General is selected in the left menu.
3. Under Appearance, open Interface language and choose Русский.
4. Check that the Settings page changes to Russian and that Русский remains selected after you leave Settings and open it again.

5. Under Внешний вид, open Язык интерфейса and choose English.
6. Leave Settings, open it again, and check that Interface language still shows English.

English remains selected after leaving and reopening Settings in the current session. Arams 1.10.2 · Windows · English

Changing the interface language changes Arams labels. It does not translate project names or photo filenames that you supplied.

Choose keyboard shortcuts for frequent actions

Open Settings, select Shortcuts, and find the action you use frequently. The verified shortcut example changes Set image rating to 4 from 4 to Shift+4, checks the new combination on a selected photograph, and restores 4 afterward.

Follow Customize keyboard shortcuts for the complete verified procedure, including how to edit, test, and reset a shortcut. Restore the default shortcut after the practice workflow so later instructions that use 4 continue to work as written.

Configure selection behavior when filtering

The Reset selected photos when switching filter switch is the selection preference associated with filter changes. The release check below tested both switch states with the same two-photo rating filter. In that check, both states ended with the one visible, rated photograph selected. Do not rely on the switch to preserve a selection that a filter hides; verify the counter before continuing your cull.

Test with reset off

1. Open the project, click Settings, and make sure General is selected.
2. Under Filter, turn off Reset selected photos when switching filter.

3. Return to the project. Clear any active filter, select both photographs, and confirm that the counter shows 2 photos / 2 selected.
4. Open the filter bar, use Include mode with the rating comparison ≥, and set the rating threshold to four stars.
5. Check that only the photograph rated 4 remains visible. In the verified run, the counter changed to 1 photos / 1 selected.

With the switch off, the filter left the visible photograph selected; the counter reads 1 photos / 1 selected. Arams 1.10.2 · Windows · English

6. Reset the filter. Both photographs return, but the verified run showed 2 photos / 1 selected: the photograph hidden by the filter did not return to the selection.

Resetting the filter restored both cards while the counter remained 2 photos / 1 selected. Arams 1.10.2 · Windows · English

Restore the reset preference

1. With both photographs visible, open Settings and turn on Reset selected photos when switching filter.

Leave the switch on after the check to restore the baseline state for the scenario. Arams 1.10.2 · Windows · English

2. Return to the project, select both photographs again, and apply the same ≥ 4 rating filter.
3. Check the counter before acting on the selection. In the verified run, only the rated photograph remained visible and selected, the same visible result observed with the switch off.
4. Reset the filter, then leave Reset selected photos when switching filter on to restore the documented baseline.

Check the result

• Interface language shows English after you leave and reopen Settings.
• Your shortcut works only with the combination shown in the Shortcuts table, and the documented rating example is restored to 4.
• With Reset selected photos when switching filter off, applying ≥ 4 to the two-photo example leaves the visible rated photograph selected. Resetting the filter restores both cards, but not the hidden card’s selection.
• With the switch on, the same check also leaves the visible rated photograph selected. The baseline switch state is restored, but this release check does not establish a different outcome between the two states.

If it does not work

• You cannot find the language control: select General and look under Appearance. In the Russian interface, these labels are Общие and Внешний вид.
• The shortcut does not affect a photograph: return to the project and select a photograph before pressing the combination. See Customize keyboard shortcuts for the verified troubleshooting steps.
• The filter result is not reproducible: confirm that one photograph has rating 4, the other is unrated, and both are selected before applying the ≥ 4 filter.
• The selection is not in the expected state after a filter change: use the project counter as the source of truth. Return to Settings to check the current state of Reset selected photos when switching filter, then reselect the photographs you need.
